vocore as a cloud server

Hi Guys,
I want to use vocore as a home file cloud server.
I would like to use my cloud at home and at work.
So my questions are...
1) The best way to connect SATA hard drive?
Im thinking to use a usb-sata converter. Does any one had tested that? what will be the USB speed?
2) The best VPN to use?
3) The best and supported File transfer protocol? I'm here looking at speed, I'm thinking to use NFS, is it supported? will it be the fastest?
