Worked on soldering a RS232 on it.

Mon Mar 23, 2015 4:39 pm

I used the small connectors to do this. I solder the 4 pin one to the RS232 and then I pulled the pins out from another connector and used a power wire off a bad PC fan it has a 3 pin connector on the end of the wire that plugs right in the USB to RS232.

So I just pushed the pins to the connector but that did not work good it don't do a good connection. I did get some RS232 Data but messed up a lot.

Unsolder the connector and when I went to solder the wires right in I pulled a trace off the RXD2. So is there a place right on the board were I can solder that?

Used wire wrap on it and them on the pins out of one of the connectors on the ends. So fits super good in the board holes.

Looked at PDF of the board. But I don't see were the RS232 would hook up to other places.

Order another one and this time I am sure I can get it right.

It be neat if they could put a like phono stereo plug on it for the RS232. The same way I seen old TiVo's did it.

Got my 2nd one today and this time I could solder the RS232 on it better. I got this photo of it so can see the solder job in the bottom right corner of the scan of it.

If you want to reuse your vocore, you probably should try the dock or the breakout board, the metal ring around the vias are not very strong ...
