B.A.T.M.A.N. on VoCore2

I'd like to use my VoCore2 as a batman-adv node
I'm running the latest firmware (20161224.bin) and it looks like this uses a newer kernel version than upstream? When trying to install `kmod-batman-adv` from upstream I get:
I guess one solution might be to build my own kmod-batman-adv, but does anyone have any advice/tips/other suggestions? Is my interpretation of the above correct? Cheers!
