Did I "brick" my Vocore2? Picocom and Kermit both freeze.

Wed Feb 15, 2017 8:03 pm

I tried connecting my Vocore2 to my wifi network using the WRT browser connection while logged on to the Vocore's "hotspot". It never appeared on my network and I am unable to connect.
I'm hoping that the radio is just disabled not BRICKED!
I purchased a USB2TTY cable and tried connecting to the Vocore using Picocom and Kermit using Kali Linux 2.0 as well as Linux Mint 17 but each time I try to connect Picocom and/or Kermit just freeze with no on screen data.
The Vocore lights up when I connect the RXD, TXD and GND wires to it and at first the yellow light comes on and then the purple light like it's still booting up.
I am a "noob" and very confused from reading different instructions.
#1. Do I also need the mini-USB (power) cord plugged in as well even though the Vocore lights up withe the USB2TTY cable connected?
#2. How do you know if the Vocore is "Uboot Alive" or "Uboot Dead"?

Thanks for any reply!
P.S. I ordered a new one but I don't want to have the same thing happen to it!

Hi, are you using one VoCore2 without dock?
If so, you will need connect RX,TX, GND to USB2TTL and connect VoCore2 to power.
Then setup kermit and connect to the USB2TTL(check what is the device name in /dev/tty.*)
Please also paste a photo of your connection include your USB2TTL.

Thanks so much for your prompt reply "Vogner"!

Here is a link to USB 2 TTY adapter I bought from eBay (made for an Arduino)

And here is a picture of Picocom "frozen" while trying to connect to ttyUSB0 in Kali Linux 2.0 (Also fails in Linux Mint 17)

And here is a picture (a little blurry) of the USB2TTY connections to my Vocore2 (With dock=Ultimate)

Oh, you are using a VoCore2 already have USB2TTL on its microUSB.
Please check our youtube video "Connect to VoCore2", link can be find at vocore.io/v2
And you connect to wrong port, check the updated pin map on vocore.io/v2

Thanks again for your reply (And I'm sorry for misspelling your username!)
From what I gather from your reply is that the Vocore2 already has USB2TTY already from the "dock"?
I will view the links in the morning.
Thanks so much!

:) If you still can not connect to serial port, check this: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=3485&p=5362&sid=9cfd52fff5b05de7653ef3e11684aeeb#p5362
we did test on win10 but not win7, this will help.

Thank you all for your support! Vonger made me realize that the Vocore I had (with dock) is already configured for USB2TTY and another user on this forum with "pepper" in their user name solved my second issue by creating an .inf driver file that worked on my Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. (I was unable to install the device driver before due to "Access Denied" errors) but pointing it to the .inf file I created using the other forum members instructions worked like a charm!

After connecting with the Vocore with the standard mini-USB cable using "SmartTTY" on my Windows box and executing the command: "firstboot -y; reboot"
I was once again able to see the Vocore's "hotspot" and I was able to update the firmware!

Thanks again for all your help!
I LOVE this little thing!
