Help getting started with SPI - GPIO or i2c

Tue Feb 28, 2017 1:47 am

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could help me in getting started setting up either an SPI or i2c based script so that i can drive a string of RGB LEDS via bit banging.

I need the ability to configure the clock to do this, really im just looking for an example to show how to configure the environment for the SPI/i2c script. Everything im finding is about spi-gpio-custom, and it uses a lower linux kernel than the os that comes on the VoCore2 so i cannot use it.

Any help is greatly appreciated! :)

So i managed to custom build OpenWRT and i can call spi-gpio-custom but it is returning the following, and i dont have enough linux experience to know how to resolve this. Can i resolve this? please if anyone can shed some light on this it would really help me out. thanks in advance

root@OpenWrt:~# insmod spi-gpio-custom bus0=1,7,29,100,0,1000
[25771.890000] Custom GPIO-based SPI driver version 0.1
[25771.900000] spi-gpio-custom: unable to get master for bus 1
failed to insert /lib/modules/3.18.29/spi-gpio-custom.ko

I have tried exporting available GPIO and attempted to use those as the bus0 but i get the same message. Maybe i did it wrong?
