Connect Vocore2 to another device via UART

Hi, how can I connect vocore2 to another device using UART?
I saw that you said it should be the same as doing the same on a Raspberry Pi, so I found this article:

So I need to edit config.txt and the kernel cmdline?
Do I need to map GPIO?
I'm an IT person and not good at electronics etc, so please help and many thanks!
